I have been playing squash for over 30 years where I represented my country (Zimbabwe) at both junior and senior levels.
The highlight of my playing career was representing my country at the 2003 All Africa games.
After growing up in a country where there was limited coaching available and almost no junior development I decided to try and give back a little bit to the sport that I still enjoy playing today. Straight out of school I was involved in coaching & managing a national junior team for 3 years taking them on an annual junior squash tour to South Africa. I stopped coaching squash when I left Zimbabwe and decided to get back into coaching squash again in 2018 only doing it part time.
I decided that squash coaching is something I really wanted to pursue so at the end of 2019 I took the plunge to go into coaching full time. I am currently the head coach at Racquets fitness centre where I look after the junior academy as well as other roles. I have also been involved in the Oxfordshire county junior coaching since 2018.
I have been representing Oxfordshire at mens county level in both squash and racketball over the years as well as competing in the England squash masters tournaments.
I look forward to helping to develop more adults and juniors into better squash players and to encourage more people to start playing squash.
Sue Martin-Downhill played the WISPA (Women’s International Squash Professional’s Association) circuit during 1990 / 1991 and reached the top 40 in the world. Currently top 10 Over 50s lady in the UK.
I most enjoy taking new players from complete beginner to becoming part of the Racquets family of squash players.
I coached the Bucks ladies county team from 1998 to 2000.
I love to teach the Adult beginners /improvers group squash classes. We learn how to hit the ball, how to be safe on the court, the rules of the game, how to find players to play, how to become part of the Racquets squash family.
I am available for squash coaching in private groups or individually. Just contact me on sue@racquets-fitness-centre.com.
